Drafts and publishing

Alerts in email and chat

An email as soon as a big story is drafted, new drafts in Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams or Google Chat, and a ready-made social post with every draft.

Big stories are the ones scored 8 or more out of 10: major news for your area, like serious accidents, severe weather warnings or big decisions. Set them up in your site's Settings, under Alerts.

Big-story emails

  • An email goes to the account owner as soon as a big story is drafted, with its headline, summary, source, what to check before publishing and a ready-made social post.
  • At most 5 a day for each site. Every other draft is in the daily drafts email (see Emails we send).
  • They're on for every new site. Untick Email me about big stories straight away to stop them.

Your team's chat

New drafts can appear in a channel your whole team reads, each with a link to the draft.

  1. In your chat app, make an incoming webhook for the channel (steps below) and copy its address.
  2. In Sudwire, open the site's Settings, paste it under Alerts and press Connect and send a test. A test message appears in the channel.
  3. Choose Every draft or Big stories only.
AppWhere to get the address
SlackMake a Slack app at api.slack.com/apps, turn on Incoming Webhooks, press Add New Webhook and pick the channel. The address starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/.
DiscordServer Settings, Integrations, Webhooks, New Webhook. Pick the channel and press Copy Webhook URL.
Microsoft TeamsIn the channel, open Workflows and choose Post to a channel when a webhook request is received. Copy the address it gives you.
Google ChatOpen the space, then Apps & integrations, Webhooks, Add webhook. Copy the address.
  • Anyone with the address can post in your channel, so Sudwire keeps it encrypted and only ever shows its last characters.
  • If the app stops taking messages, Settings says why. After 5 failed messages in a row they stop until you connect it again.
  • Editors and the account owner can connect or disconnect it. Viewers see whether one is connected.

Ready-made social posts

Every draft comes with a short post for your Facebook page or X account: the key fact in plain words, in your site's language, without hashtags or emojis. It's on the draft's page in your dashboard with a Copy button, and in alert emails and chat messages. The draft's page also has Open in WordPress once the draft is there.
