Troubleshooting

No drafts are coming

Work through sources, story choices, writing hours and limits to find why no drafts arrive.

Work down this list. The Today page shows most of it.

  1. Is the site On? The label next to Today says On, Paused, Setting up or Not running (see Site shows Not running).
  2. Is there a banner at the top? It says what the account needs, like starting the trial or updating a card.
  3. Is WordPress or Ghost connected, and your site confirmed? (See WordPress plugin not seen and Site not confirmed.)
  4. Are your sources working? Look under Need attention on the Sources tab (see When a source stops working). If Today says “Your sources bring about … stories a day worth writing”, add more sources with Scout.
  5. Is Which stories set high? With Big ones only, some days have none. Try Balanced or More stories, and check Never cover and Skip stories older than under Advanced (see Which stories).
  6. Are Writing hours set? Outside them, stories wait. A long Minutes between articles also means fewer a day.
  7. Has the site reached its limit? Articles today shows it, and during the free trial the limit is 5 a day (see Articles a day).
  8. Are drafts written but not in WordPress? The Drafts tab lists them as Waiting until the plugin collects them. Press Check now on the Newsroom screen.

Quiet days

Official sources publish less at weekends and on holidays. Some stories are also skipped on purpose: duplicates of a story you already have, announcements too thin to write from, and drafts that stayed too close to the source's wording.

The Activity list on Today shows what each check found, like “3 new stories found” or “2 drafts written”, with notes such as “Daily limit reached, new items wait for tomorrow”. Press Run now to check your sources straight away.
