Sources
Add a source by hand
Paste a website, feed, YouTube channel or social profile, and Sudwire checks it before adding it.
- Open your site, go to Sources and open Add a website or feed yourself. The same box is on Scout's page.
- Paste the address. The name is optional: if you leave it empty, Sudwire uses the source's own.
- If it's another news outlet, tick This is another news outlet (lead only). This box is only there on plans with story leads.
- Press Check and add. Sudwire checks the source works before adding it.
What to paste
- The page that lists their news or media releases. This usually works best.
- A news feed address.
- A homepage, or a page about the agency: Sudwire looks for its feed or news page.
- A YouTube channel address.
- A profile link, like
x.com/CityPolice,facebook.com/CityPolice,instagram.com/citypoliceorbsky.app/profile/citypolice.bsky.social. For Bluesky,citypolice.bsky.socialalso works, and for Mastodon@name@server.socialor the profile address. A handle on its own, like @CityPolice, isn't enough.
The labels under the box show the networks your site can follow, and how many accounts of each.
If it can't be added
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Paste the profile link, like x.com/CityPolice. | Paste the full profile address, not just the handle. |
| No news found there. Try the page that lists their news. | Open their website, find the News or Media releases page and paste that address. |
| Nothing new there in the last 60 days. Try the page that lists their news. | The feed exists but has gone quiet. Look for the page they post news on now. |
| That’s your own site. Add the places your news comes from. | Drafts go to your site, so it can't be a source. |
| The website blocks automated reading, so it can’t be followed. | Try the same body's YouTube channel or social accounts, or ask Scout. |
| The website’s robots.txt asks robots not to read these pages. | Sudwire respects this. Try another of their channels. |
| The website’s address can’t be found. It may have moved or closed. | Check the address for typos. |
| Your plan has reached its number of sources. | Remove a source you don't need, or see Change your plan. |
| This site follows as many X accounts as it can. | The site has reached that network's limit. Remove one to add another. |
| X accounts can’t be added to this site. | That network isn't part of your plan (see Kinds of source). |
| X accounts can be added soon. | We can't read that network yet. It opens later. |
| Instagram account not found (only business and creator accounts can be followed) | Personal Instagram accounts can't be followed. |
| That’s enough account checks for today. Try again tomorrow. | Looking up X, Facebook and Instagram accounts is limited each day. |
| That’s a lot of checks for one day. Try again tomorrow, or ask Scout. | Adding by hand is limited each day. Scout can still help. |
| That source is already on the list. | The site already follows it. |
The X in these messages stands for whichever network you tried.
